Meet Scott Vecchi

Scott was born and raised in Plymouth, MA. He is the son of Alan (a Plymouth Police Officer) and Susan (a Registered Nurse) and a descendant of the original pilgrims.

He is a 1987 graduate of Plymouth Carver High School.

Following graduation, Scott joined the US Marine Corps and, after his initial 4 year contract, remained in the Marine Corps Reserve.

Scott was hired as a Corrections officer for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Dept at South Bay, and then by The MBTA Transit Police, graduating from the Boston Police Academy’s class 27-94.

On December 2, 1994, while assigned to the Park Street station in Boston, Scott was attacked by a knife-wielding assailant. He later received the George L. Hanna Medal of Valor (1994) from Governor William Weld for the bravery and restraint displayed in the confrontation.

In the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attack on America, Scott was recalled to active duty several times.

In 2006, Scott was deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, where he served as a Gunnery Sergeant with 1st Battalion, 25th Marines.

Due to illness, Scott was medically evacuated to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and later retired from active duty.

Scott passed the February 2013 MA Bar exam and was admitted to practice in Massachusetts; he was later admitted to practice in the Federal District of Massachusetts and received a Lawyer/Broker Real Estate license.

On Marathon Monday 2013, Scott responded to the Marathon Bombing as a member of the METRO-Lec SWAT team and participated in the Watertown manhunt for the terrorist bombers.

In March 2018, Scott was admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court.

Scott continued to serve as a Plymouth Police Sergeant in many capacities, including as liaison to Plymouth County Outreach, lead Firearms/Taser and Use of Force instructor, Motorcycle Unit Supervisor, Detective Sergeant, Street Crimes Unit Supervisor, Training Sergeant, and member of the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council’s SWAT team. In this capacity, he responded to over 300 SWAT activations.

His Police awards include the George L. Hanna Medal of Valor, the Italian American Police Officers Association Medal of Valor, numerous commendations, and the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Officer of the Year (twice).

Scott is currently elected to the Plymouth Redevelopment Authority, where he serves as the Vice- Chair and has served in many other roles for local government over the years, including as an elected member of the Charter Commission, an appointed member of the Historic District Commission, an appointed member of the Charter Review Committee, and as an elected Town Metting member.

Now, Scott is running for Plymouth County Commissioner to improve county services, protect our environment, and increase public safety!
